10/7/2008 - Hepatitis hits 500,000 in the kingdom


THE latest statistics showed that the hepatitis epidemic has spread at the rate of 2% among the Saudi population, that is, 500,000 people are afflicted with the virus and another 400,000 are exposed to it.

A scientific study said that the genetic type 4 is the most widespread hepatitis virus in the Kingdom, at the rate of 62 percent. This kind of virus is considered to be among the dormant kinds of virus. It can continue for a period between 10 and 30 years before the appearance of the symptoms.
